Interlinked Smoke Detectors

  

Part B of the building regulations require all refurbished or new buildings to be fitted with a fire alarm/detection system. A domestic fire alarm system circuit must be installed on a separate circuit independent from any other services and have battery back up. The fire alarm heads for domestic premises normally come with an individual internal 9V battery back-up and the capability to be interlinked.

The circuit has a low power source demand and can be fed from a 5A MCB and must be wired between each head with 1.0mm or 1.5mm, 3 core and earth cable for linkage between the heads. The maximum length of the circuit must not exceed 56m for 1.0mm cable and 88m for 1.5mm cable. A fire alarm must be fitted on each floor in the circulation area within 7.5m of the habital rooms. If the kitchen is not seperate from the circulation area by means of a door, a compatible interlinked heat detector must be additionally installed in the kitchen.
