Ensure Family's Safety With Home Escape Ladders   by Erickson Dow

We are so lucky to have our residence in this wonderful place. Our house seems older though but it's al fresco is very impressive with a covered deck as an extension outside the living the room.We spend many hours out there, dining, just sitting looking at the trees that cover us with a canopy of verdant life. This part of the house is where I always like to be in.

It became apparent to us while we were re-polishing our deck lately that our house had no emergency exit. In case of fire, or earthquake or the need to leave the house quickly, there was no escaping especially if we were on the deck that stands 30 feet above the ground. This leaves only one entrance into the house, the front door.If there were a fire or emergency in that part of the house, we would be trapped. Placing stairs on the deck could pose a danger to us from people who loves to trespass in other people's properties so we excluded that as one of our escape options. So we did some research on what other avenues to consider as fire escape measures. An escape ladder that clips on the railing of the deck or sill of the window was what we picked. We have it put on deck so that we can get to it immediately with no trouble.

Every year, an estimate of 20,000 are house burnt victims and more than 4,000 of that die. Loss of life would have been reduced if people have been prepared with their escape plan.

Know what to do in case of emergency. If ever there is an emergency, do not ever delay. Less than 30 seconds is all it needs for a small flame to go ablaze, and only few minutes for smoke to fill up the house and bring the house down.

Other advise is that plan your emergency drills and each month, practice on them for you to get used to it. It is imperative to practice on it most especially if you have kids, old people, physically handicapped, or pets living with you.Plan at least two ways to get out of each room, have collapsible ladders for multi story houses or apartments.Check your windows to make sure they are not stuck, and if you have security bars on them, make sure they can be easily released and that every member of the family is educated on how to unlatch them. Think of smoke hoods, they might be useful. Keep your flashlight close. Smoke detectors on every floor in the house are recommended. Once you place them, keep their batteries in good condition.

Your life comes first above all material things. So if it happens that your house is caught on fire, secure yourself and do not waste time saving your possessions as this may take your life.Immediately leave the home, taking the safest route.Designate a place for all family members to meet and account for everyone, assuring that all escaped safely and no one is hurt. Dial 911 after you got out. Do not attempt to go back inside the burning house.

These few simple tips can dramatically make a difference and increase your chances of survival in an emergency.

This time, we already know what to do in case there's an emergency. We also have our emergency ladder to aid us, so there is nothing to worry about while we are on deck!
